Channel 2's Audrey Washington was told the 15-year-old boy was found face down in a yard in the 1100 block of Kristen Cove at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Clayton County police say Keyontae Ross, who is also known as Jeremiah, had been there for several hours before anyone called 911.

Detectives say he was a student at North Clayton High School.

Family members said Ross had just moved from Henry County with his mother and kept to himself. They said he he had a small circle of friends at school.

What led up to the shooting is still unknown, but neighbors say they heard some gunshots a few hours before Ross was found.

Still, some people at the scene say they can't get the gruesome image out of their minds.

"It's awful, and then to know that that child laid out there all night long and it poured down raining," a neighbor said.

Right now, there are no details about whoever is responsible, but investigators will talk with officials at the school to get more information.

Keyontae's aunt, Dewanna Crawford, says she and the rest of the family are heartbroken.

"My sister is taking it really hard -- that was her baby so I mean we have family that's coming and they've been coming since last night," Crawford said. "It's just really hard. We just don't understand why anyone would kill a 15-year-old."

Police are actively investigating the case.

Family members are talking to classmates and searching social media for anything that could provide clues.
