Crews investigating what caused fire that destroyed apartments

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators are still working to determine what sparked a local apartment fire where dozens of victims lost everything.

Firefighters keep pouring water Thursday onto the blackened rubble of what used to be a row of ten townhomes in Clayton County.

Nearly 24 hours later, in light of a new day, one renter looks on at her home literally burned to the ground.

Rosland Full saw the fire spread at the Ashwood Ridge apartments Wednesday.

“It started to burn, started to spread,” Full said.

The wind pushed the fire down the line of homes.

"I was able to open the door,” Full said. “(All I saw was) smoke. Black smoke."

By that time, firefighters arrived but the fire was out of control and spreading to a second building.

The flames were so intense coming off the building that part of another building across the street had damage.

In all, 20 families, more than 60 people, including many kids, are now displaced.

After four years, Full and her three kids, ages 11, 12 and 14 year old have nothing left.

The fire even destroyed two cars, including the family's Ford Expedition parked in front of her door.

She couldn't get in to save anything just a week and a half before the holidays.

"Christmas presents, TVs, beds, everything… my rent money. Everything is gone,” Full said.

She's now staying with family, while getting help from the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Full said she’s thankful no one was hurt.
