Local man posts giant billboard in search for new kidney

A Clayton County man is getting creative trying to find a new kidney after his first kidney transplant failed more than 10 years ago.
Channel 2’s Craig Lucie first met Randy Daniel in 2015 when he covered Daniel’s struggles to find a living donor.
After years of searching, doctors recently told Daniel that time is running out. As a last ditch effort, Daniel knew he needed to do something drastic, so he decided to put up a giant billboard to find a donor.
“I am doing everything I can to get the word out there,” said Daniel.
He already tried interviews, a social media campaign, t-shirts and even making his car into a rolling billboard, but nothing worked. Daniel said he knew he needed to go a step further to find a new kidney.
A GoFundMe page helped him put up his billboard along Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, a spot thousands of people drive by every day.
“It says my name is Randy Daniel, please help save my life,” he said.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — TRENDING STORIES:

Daniel was born with polycystic kidney disease that causes clusters of cysts to develop in a person’s kidneys. His kidneys failed in 2002. Then, a family member gave him one of their kidneys in 2003, which he says was an easy procedure.
“It’s minimally invasive now,” Daniel said. “It has come a long way.”
But in 2007, Daniel contracted West Nile virus and his new kidney failed.
“It has been over 10 years,” Daniel said.
Now, he doesn't’t have any kidneys and his doctors are extremely worried.
“I am doing everything I can to get the word out,” Daniel said.
Daniel said he always has hope.
“It’s critical in my situation, and I pray someone out there has a match for me. I know they are there and we will find that one person. It will give me life, literally,” said Daniel.
Daniel said his matching donor odds are one in 50,000. A kidney from a living donor will give him another 15 years.
