Clayton Co. murder suspect denies charges

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Clayton County police announced the arrest of a murder suspect Wednesday night.

Michael Jordan, 23, was brought to the Clayton County Jail around 10 p.m. Wednesday. He told Channel 2's Eric Philips he is innocent.

"If anybody else committed it, step up to the plate. Need all the help and support I can get," Jordan said.

Jordan is charged with felony murder after police said he shot 24-year-old Stacey Johnson Sunday night on Riverview Place.

Police said the incident began at a nearby QuickTrip where the two men exchanged no words, but stared each other down. From there, the two men left in separate cars, and police said Jordan fired into Johnson's car, hitting him in the back of the head.

"The fact that this victim was shot without any words being exchanged, almost cold-blooded, we felt the urgency to get the subject off the street," Johnny Robinson of the Clayton County Police Department said.

Members of the Clayton County Fugitive Task Force picked up Jordan on Wednesday in Lawrenceville.

Police told Philips that Jordan is a convicted felon with a long rap sheet. They also said the shooting may have been gang-related.
