Family of slain man posting fliers hoping for arrest

CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. — The family of a slain man is posting fliers around downtown Athens in hopes of helping facilitate an arrest.

Daniel Macias, 28, was fatally shot on Aug. 13 at 2:38 a.m. while he was walking to this car downtown.

The shooting took place at the corner of East Hancock Avenue and Jackson Street.

The investigation is still ongoing and the suspect is still unidentified and on the loose.

Macias's family and close friends are desperate for answers as he was loved dearly by everyone he ever met.

With "Justice for Daniel" bracelets and dozens of fliers, family and friends walked the area near where the former UGA student was shot and killed last month.

Erica Macias says she has missed her brother since the morning someone shot him.

“He was friends with everyone, there wasn’t anyone he met that could say anything bad about him,” Erica said.

Athens-Clarke County police released surveillance video of a person of interest seen minutes before they believe Macias was killed, but they've made no arrests.

Loved ones created a memorial for him at the place he was killed as a way to get more people involved.

“It's kind of a way to like bring attention to it but also celebrate his memory and his presence,” friend Meagan Fant said.

The family says they won't stop looking for answers to help police solve the first murder in downtown Athens in thirteen years.

“It hurts a lot that nobody has been caught yet especially since it was right here in the middle of everything,” Fant said.

The initial and current reward offered by Crime Stoppers is set at $1,000.
