Detectives: Woman impersonates nurse to steal at assisted living facility

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County sheriff’s detectives are looking for a woman they say impersonated a nurse to steal from real nurses at a local assisted living center. Authorities say it happened at the Oaks at Towne Lake, one of the county’s newest senior living communities.

Similar facilities have medical professionals on staff and detectives say the woman pretended to be part of the team.

"That's kind of what she did here. She just walked into the assisted living center and signed in under a false name and false business,” Sgt. Marianne Kelley said.

The suspect apparently walked around like she belonged there.

Authorities say the suspect did not enter any of the patients’ rooms or interact with the residents. She apparently avoided detection because of the way she was dressed.

"She was dressed in scrubs so she would fit in," Kelley said.

"Because a lot of other people are dressed that way?" Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen asked.
