16-year-old shot inside Cherokee County home

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old boy was found shot inside a Cherokee County home Wednesday morning.

Canton police found the 16-year-old boy on a couch, inside his house on Alpine Street just before 2:30 a.m.

The boy's mother rushed to help him after the shooting, in the middle of the night, say police.

The victim went to Northside Cherokee Hospital with one bullet wound and is now stable, according to police.

Officers are working to identify the shooter. "I feel bad for him, because I know him, we used to go to elementary school together and I grew up with him and I can't believe it actually," the victim's friend, Juan Ramirez, said.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke to the teenager's grandfather, who said the bullet pierced his lungs.

Investigators are asking witnesses to to come forward and help them piece together what happened, but so far they believe the suspect smashed out windows and shot at the teenager as he slept in his bed.

The teenagers grandfather showed Channel 2's Matt Johnson the damage to the back window right above where the boy sleeps.

Neighbors at a nearby dog park on Juniper Street say they're eager for police to make an arrest.

"I hope they catch who's responsible behind it and kind of keep the neighborhood at peace," one neighbor said.

Canton police describe the neighborhood as quiet with no significant incidents they can think of in the past.

The victim's grandfather describes the teenager as a good kid and he has no idea who would want to hurt him.
