Woman says she has to pay to move road rage case forward

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A woman wants deputies to arrest the man who she said pointed a gun at her during a road rage incident.

Mallari Wilson said she was driving on Highway 61 in Carroll County on Monday when a man cut her off in traffic.

She said he pulled up beside her and flicked her off, and when she returned the gesture, he pointed a gun at her.

“I was just, like, 'This isn’t the way I want to go,'” Wilson said.

She followed the man, who was driving a silver Dodge Ram, to get his license plate information. She called 911 and the dispatcher told her to stop following.

“She was, like, ‘Stop following him.' I was like, ‘Well y’all come and get him,'” Wilson said.

Deputies never caught up to the driver. A spokesperson with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said that’s partly because there was an incorrect digit in the tag number they took down.

Now, Wilson says the only way to continue the case is for her to pay for a warrant hearing and be responsible for subpoenaing the driver.

“For someone pulling a gun on me, I have to pay for it,” she said.

She said there are no witnesses and there is no evidence, so it will only be his word against hers.

“If they would have gone and tried to get him then that day and pulled him over, they would have found the gun in the truck,” Wilson said. “They didn’t do their part. They’re supposed to be here to help me. To protect and serve.”

Deputies said they did everything they could. They have the truck owner's name and address, but have not made contact.
