Canton police search for attempted kidnapper

CANTON, Ga. — Canton police are investigating a possible attempted kidnapping.

Police said a woman in her 60s told them she was walking on a sidewalk on Reservoir Drive near First Baptist Church of Canton Thursday morning when a man approached her.

The woman told police the man was armed with a handgun and threatened to abduct her. Police said the woman crossed the street and flagged down a car to call 911. The woman said the man fled on foot heading north toward the Great Sky community.

"We're still investigating it. The woman reporting it has been interviewed and right now, we have officers in the area still attempting to find the male," Canton Police Officer Pacer Pacer Cordry said.

Police spent five hours searching the surrounding area. Officers used search dogs and marine equipment to search a nearby reservoir.

The man is described as being in his early 30s with a burgundy long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses and a khaki hat.
