Campfires and cricket farms: The love and lessons from our fathers

Jason Durden's father, William Durden

In honor of Father's Day, we thought we'd share some of our favorite memories and life lessons from our dear old dads today!
Jason Durden:
"This is my favorite picture of my dad, William Durden (pictured above). This was when he was serving in the Korean War. Dad went on to have a long career in sales until my teenage years when he bought a cricket farm. You read that right: a cricket farm. We raised crickets to be sold as fish bait. An unusual career choice to be sure, but one he loved and one that made it able for him to spend more time with his family. Dad passed away in 2001 and I miss him every day."

"I remember one time I asked, 'Why do you read so many newspapers and watch the news, all the time? He said, 'It's important to learn both sides, so you can make your own side.’"

"I remember going with my dad to work at CNN one day, about four years after this picture was taken. I remember him introducing me to his new intern, a young woman named Katie… Couric."
