Some south Fulton County business owners say to dedicate a portion of Old National Highway to pastor Creflo Dollar is “disgusting.”
Channel 2’s Craig Lucie met a few of them Monday afternoon, and they shared why they think the dedication is a terrible idea.
“Once the sun goes down, Old National is a different place. Once bible study and Sunday service is over, it’s a different place,” said Marcus Coleman, the founder of Save Ourselves.
Coleman, a community activist, grew up off of Old National Highway. He and business owners are upset with state Sen. Donzella James’ proposal to dedicate a portion of the highway between Highway 138 and Interstate 285 Creflo Dollar Highway.
“It’s asinine to think about dedicating a street where the blood is still flowing on the street,” Coleman said.
Lucie also talked to Greg Brown, who is affiliated with the business 112 Mega-Plex.
“I think they have their own island on Old National, and there’s the rest of Old National and the rest of Old National is not indicative of what’s going on around his place,” he said.
While many of the business owners are upset with this proposal, Lucie had a long conversation with James.
SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — She challenged them to go to World Changers Church and see all of the community services that they offer and also see what has happened in the immediate area around Dollar’s church.
“For 30 years they have invested in the community when the whole street was boarded up. They have a free food and clothing bank and give away school supplies throughout the year," James said. "To the naysayers, perhaps they should go look on their website or send someone over there to investigate."
Lucie also reached out to World Changers Church International and has not heard back. Coleman and the business owners said they have been pushing for a town hall meeting, but they have not had any luck.
“All we wanted was the community’s voice to be heard and that door was slammed in our face,” Coleman said.
