Police identify suspect shot, killed by police as wanted gang member

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. — A gang member wanted in Floyd County was shot and killed by police Sunday, the coroner confirms.

Jefferey Tyler Aycock, 28, died of multiple gunshot wounds after he got in a shootout with SWAT teams in a remote part of Floyd County, officials said. No officers were injured.

The shooting happened at an abandoned cabin on Chulio Road Sunday. The GBI told Channel 2's Michael Seiden that SWAT teams opened fire on Aycock when they tried to serve a warrant at the cabin, which was about a mile from Aycock's address.

Police had been searching for him since Tuesday night, when he shot at officers as they tried to serve a warrant, police say.

On Sunday afternoon, members of the Floyd County SWAT team spread out across the remote wooded area near downtown Rome. The coroner said when SWAT members went into an abandoned cabin, gunfire erupted.

Aycock was pronounced dead at the scene.

Aycock, who is believed to have ties to the Ghost Face Gangsters, was wanted on charges of probation violation and contempt of court.

Police told Seiden two more people have been arrested in connection with the shooting for helping Aycock hide from police. Victorian Shaffer, 24, and Guy Haney, 41, are being held without bond.

Seiden spoke to neighbors, who couldn't believe what happened in their rural area.

"It's very unnerving. Shocking," witness Stephen Mullen said. "I've never seen anything like that happen."

Mullen and his father spend a lot of time in the area because they work out of a garage where they restore classic cars.

"I try to find peace out here and relax," Mullen said. "I can't relax with all this kind of stuff going on out here."

Many people believe Aycock was responsible for many other crimes in the area. Police have not confirmed that yet.

The GBI said they would be providing an update on the investigation on Monday morning.
