Boy, 11, hit by car at bus stop dies

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — A middle school student has died after he was hit by a car while approaching his school bus Thursday morning.

According to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, Thomas Conner Burch, 11, stepped into the road at the intersection of Locust Grove Griffin Road and Tanger Boulevard as his bus was approaching and was hit by a car driving in the opposite direction. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating whether the bus' lights were on at the time.

The driver, identified as 57-year-old Claudia Claudia McGahee, stopped and called 911.

Burch was airlifted to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta–Egelston unconscious and in critical condition, but later died.

Burch's father is a Henry County police officer, Channel 2's Michael Buczyner reported.

No charges have been filed.
