Bomb threat prompts courthouse evacuations

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Fire crews investigated reports of a bomb threat at the Cobb County Courthouse.

Sources told Channel 2 Action News someone called officials and said a bomb was buried somewhere outside of the courthouse in Marietta.  Crews evacuated all four courthouses on the Marietta Square since the person wasn’t specific as to where the bomb was located, and they were reopened around 11:45 a.m.

The threat was also for the Cherokee County Courthouse, sources said.

News Chopper 2 flew over the courthouse shortly after 11 a.m., when K-9 officers searched outside the county courthouse in Canton.

Officials limited access to the building instead of ordering an evacuation.

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office official said they've noticed a trend of bomb threats when foreclosure proceedings are held at the courthouse.
