Body found in southeast Atlanta home

ATLANTA, Ga. — Police are investigating after a homeless man found a body in a vacant home Tuesday near the Atlanta Zoo.

The home is in the 1400 block of Park Avenue, a couple of blocks west of Boulevard, Atlanta police said.

A homeless man stayed in the house Monday night, and “when he woke up this morning, he saw the body and then he called police,” Det. Kevin Otts told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“He had a little bit too much to drink last night, went inside, passed out in the back of the house, got up in the morning, went into the bedroom and then he called us immediately,” Otts said.

He said detectives could not immediately determine a cause of death or tell whether foul play was involved due to the severe state of decomposition.
