UNION CITY, Ga. - Two women walking to work said they were looking for the ducks they usually see in a pond when they noticed a body floating in the water.

The Fulton County medical examiner is investigating how the man died and ended up in the pond on Royal Parkway in Union City.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones spoke with Austrailia Wilson, who said she and her co-worker were slackened and disturbed by their discovery.

“We was like ‘oh snap, a dead body! I said ‘Girl you lying,” said Wilson, explaining her reaction.

“The two women told Union City police they noticed a fully-clothed man dead in the pond near Highway 85 as they walked to work. Wilson said seeing the man face down floating in the water is something she'll never forget.

An area fisherman, who frequents the Union City pond for catfish and bass, said the recent discovery has deterred him from coming back.

“(I’ve) been fishing over here for years. Not no more,” Stanley Williams said.

Wilson, meanwhile, is struggling to get the picture of the dead out of her mind.

“How you let that go; especially when you walk here every morning?” she asked, noting that in a strange way she was glad she found the man.

“I’m just glad I walked past to get him out the water. Regardless if (he was) dead or alive, his body was found,” Wilson said.

Police are not commenting on their investigation until the medical examiner releases a cause of death.
