FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — There is a new effort to solve the brutal murder of a Fayette County woman with cerebral palsy.
A billboard has been posted northbound along Interstate 85 near the Highway 74 exit with Denice Roberts' photo
Sheriff's investigators and the victim's grandmother hope the billboard will bring in some new leads in the cold case from 2012.
"She loved the Lord. She loved her church. She loved everybody," said her grandmother, Betty Brown.
Roberts was born with cerebral palsy. Around-the-clock care fell to her grandmother's responsibility. The two were always together.
"And she was my life for 44 years, one month, and three days," Brown said.
Their last day together was Aug. 10, 2012. Betty and Denice walked in on some burglars.
As the thieves drove away one of them fired a gun, shooting Denice in the left side of her face. The shot killed her instantly.
Two-and-a-half years later, there is now a billboard along I-85 reminding people that Denice's killers were never caught.
The owner of the billboard donated the space. Betty's church paid for the message.
"To rally behind Miss Betty and let her know that we love her, and we want to do everything we can to help solve this case," said Pastor Daniel Dejong with The Rock Baptist Church.
In Denice's room on her bed there are Christmas gifts from grandma -- Barbie dolls, neatly wrapped. One for each year since she died. Betty says she will always miss her sweet little girl.
"Night and day. Talk to her like she's here. Tell her I love her," Brown said. "Nothing will ever be the same without her."
Brown says there may be many people who know who killed her granddaughter.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
