Woman carjacked by gunmen after leaving morning workout class

ATLANTA — A woman said she was held at gunpoint and carjacked in midtown Atlanta just minutes after finishing her workout.

Michelle Tyde said three men dressed in all black were crouched down hiding in front of her car.

The mother of three told Channel 2's Christian Jennings that she was returning to her car at a parking deck Tuesday at the corner of Piedmont and Monroe Drive when she was jumped.

“I opened my door, and just as I was, like, trying to step in and close the door, at the same time this guy pops up on the other side of the door and sticks a gun in my face, and then there were two more guys,” Tyde said. “One guy right behind him, and the other guy at the hood of my car.”

Tyde said she didn't know what would happen next.

"Honestly, I was worried they were going to try and take me with them and shoot me, maybe rape me, I didn't know," she said.

She says the man with the gun demanded her car keys.

"I handed him my keys and I started to take a few steps back and another guy said, 'No, wait, stop,' and I just turned and ran as fast as I could out of the garage thinking, 'Please don't shoot me,'" she said.

A gym surveillance video shows Tyde running for her life back inside.

"I ran to the gym screaming hysterically, crying. You think you're going to wake up, this is a bad dream," she said.

Shortly after, her 2017 gold Land Rover is seen leaving the parking garage.

"You never think it's going to happen to you," she said. "It's a good part of town. I mean it's right off the beltline."

Police say about 12 hours after the carjacking, they spotted Tyde's SUV off Greenbriar Parkway and Campbellton Road. They arrested the driver, but aren't releasing his name yet.

Tyde said investigators called her in to look at a lineup Friday morning.

"I was able to pick out the guy that had the gun in my face," she said.

Tyde says that man's face still haunts her.

"You're really traumatized from it. I've had a lot of anxiety from it, especially at night when it gets dark. Because it was dark when it happened," she said.
