ATLANTA - Police are on the lookout for a man who randomly attacked a woman, beating her so badly she thought she was going die.

The victim had just pulled her car into her driveway in her Defoors Ferry Road subdivision in northwest Atlanta and took a second to check her Facebook before getting out of the car. She said as she did, she noticed a silver Chrysler 300 drive through the community, but didn’t think anything of it.

When she got out of the car moments later, she told Channel 2’s Dave Huddleston that a man was standing there and began to beat her in the head with a brick.

The man, who was wearing a mask and gloves, then stole her phone, jumped in the car and drove away.

"The victim was screaming at the top of her lungs and there were many first responders that ran out and that is really what saved her life,” said a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified.

“We're just all devastated,” she said.

Atlanta police say they have extra officers and patrols in the area.

“This is a very brazen crime. That's why we are working so hard to get these guys off the streets,” said Donald Hannah, with the Atlanta Police Department. “(Officers) will be working on Zone 2 for the next couple of weeks, maybe even months, to help bring down violent crime in that area."

Until the attacker is off the streets, the neighbor told Huddleston that there will be fear in the neighborhood.

“The thing that I feel, and probably everyone in the subdivision should feel, it could've been any one of us,” the neighbor said. “At any time, any one of us. And that's why it’s very emotional and scary."
