Widow of judge killed by Brian Nichols doubts his apology

ATLANTA — The wife of a judge killed by Brian Nichols more than 10 years ago says his apology isn't enough. Nichols went on a shooting rampage inside the Fulton County Courthouse in 2005.

Nichols killed a judge, a court reporter, a sheriff's deputy and, later, a federal agent.

During an exclusive interview with Nichols, he said, "I don't know what I could actually say to express my apologies. Words sometimes are not enough."

The widow of Judge Rowland Barnes, Claudia Barnes, says she was interested to hear Nichols, because he changed her life.

"He is what he is. I think he is a bad seed," Barnes said.

Barnes says she was heartened to see the high security Nichols gets in the high max unit he lives in.

"Even though it brings back bad memories or heartbreak or whatever, it was very informative to me to know how he lives, and he can't get out," Barnes said.
