Vigil held for pregnant woman hit, killed by driver at bus stop

ATLANTA — On the day that was supposed to be her baby shower, a vigil was held for

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington spoke with members of Keanna Shields Bentley's family at the crash site, which is now marked with balloons and stuffed animals.

They told Washington they want to learn more about the accident that took the life of the 22-year-old who had so much ahead of her.

Tears flowed at the very spot where Bentley and her unborn child lost their lives.

One by one, family and friends gathered along Pryor Road in southwest Atlanta on the very day that would’ve been her baby shower.

Saturday, Bentley’s mother told Washington the celebration for her grandchild’s life would still go on.

“Since we couldn’t have the baby shower, we’re going to continue to have the celebration, we just moved it to tomorrow,” mother Angela Shields said.

“She would want everyone to come out and enjoy themselves, she would do the same thing if it was one of us,” brother Deandre Williams said.

This week, Bentley, a married nursing student, was on her way to pick up her cap and gown.

As she waited for the bus, the driver of a vehicle lost control and slammed right into Bentley.

She was eight months pregnant.

“She touched a lot of people and she didn’t deserve to go out like this,” Williams said.

Atlanta police are still investigating the deadly accident.

Family members say they can’t rest until they have answers.

“He ran my sister over and we have to bury her and nothing happens, so I want justice and this ain’t over until we get justice,” Williams said.

“He didn’t just take my daughter’s life, he took my grandbaby’s life. He took two generations away from me,” Shields said.

Right now, the driver has not been charged.

The funeral is set for next Saturday.
