Saturday marks 34 days without measurable rain in Atlanta

ATLANTA — A cold front moved through north Georgia Saturday morning, but Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan says that only a few little sprinkles came across the north Georgia mountains before dawn.

Saturday was the 34th day without measurable rain in Atlanta – making it the second-longest streak on record.

Behind the front, the wind is really picking up and we're already seeing wind gusts of 30-40 mph.

There’s a wind advisory in place today across all of north Georgia through midnight. Small trees and branches could come down due to the strong northwest wind, which will push smoke from the fires back toward the north and east side of the metro.

Temperatures Saturday stayed in the 50s through the afternoon under a sunny sky. Saturday night will be windy as temperatures drop back through the 40s and into the 30s, with wind chills in the 20s.

The gusty wind should keep temperatures in Atlanta just above freezing, but many areas will drop below freezing. There's a freeze warning from 9 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. Sunday.

Under lots of sun, we'll stay in the low to mid-50s Sunday. Less wind means a colder start on Monday morning.

The forecast low is for freezing temperatures in Atlanta. That would be the first freezing temperature since last Valentine’s Day.

Monahan said to expect a warming trend beyond this through midweek, with highs by Wednesday in the upper 60s ahead of the next front that brings a chance of some showers late Wednesday or early on Thanksgiving Day.
