Two suspects injured in officer-involved shooting in SW Atlanta

ATLANTA — Atlanta police confirm two suspects were shot during a pursuit near University Ave. and I-75/85 Saturday afternoon.

According to police, this began when officers tried to pull over four people inside two stolen Dodge Chargers around 5:30 p.m.

Police say one of the Chargers kept ramming other cars on I-75/85 and officers opened fire into the car in the middle of traffic.%

The suspects rammed at least five cars during the chase, investigators say.

"Someone rear-ended us and we spun out in the middle of traffic and shots started firing," witness London Smith said.

One of the Chargers eventually crashed about a mile away from the I-75/85 exit on University Ave.

Witnesses say they saw two men get out of the crashed vehicle and run until they were taken into custody.

Police say two suspects were injured in the officer-involved shooting. Both suspects were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Channel 2 Action News was there as officers placed a suspect in a squad car on University Ave. Police say two suspects were arrested while two others were shot.

Investigators say one of the Chargers was stolen about 30 minutes before it was spotted by officers.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is taking over the investigation of this officer-involved shooting.
