SNOWMAGEDDON: Remember the last big winter storm to hit Atlanta?

ATLANTA — Remember Snowmageddon, aka Snowpocalypse, in 2014?

You know, that time when commuters, schools and businesses all let out at the same time, causing gridlock. Some people had to abandon their cars or sleep in them overnight.

With the upcoming snow predicted, we decided to take a look back at the mess across metro Atlanta.

The problems began as the roads became clogged with drivers as the winter weather moved in. Many schools and businesses closed in the late morning and early afternoon.

The slick roads caused spinouts and wrecks across metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Crews worked hundreds of crashes over the course several days. Channel 2's Richard Elliot caught one car spinning out on Ga. 400 live on TV.

Thousands of flights were canceled because of the winter weather. Many people were unable to even get on the roads to get to the airport.

Many area stores opened their doors to take in stranded drivers. Drivers and some employees took shelter in this Publix grocery store on West Paces Ferry Road.

One man even walked 6 miles to spend the night with his daughter, who was stuck at school.
