Possible person of interest revealed in case of woman found dead in park

ATLANTA — Police returned to a neighborhood park Wednesday, one year after a woman’s naked body was found there.

"We've been working this case tirelessly for a year," Atlanta police Detective Andre Lowe said about the investigation into who killed Bridget Shiel.

Police canvassed the neighborhood around Oakland City Park, asking neighbors if they had any information about Shiel’s death.

Shiel’s body was riddled with bullets when it was discovered. Detectives said she was shot in the back at least seven times while running away from her killer.

There were no witnesses and no cameras that caught what happened that night.

In January, investigators learned of DNA evidence was found at the crime scene and on Bridget's body.

The lead detective on the case spoke out for the first time Wednesday, telling Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez that he's working new leads in the case.

“When you say you have leads are there particular people that you guys are looking for? Like possible persons of interest in the case?” Jaquez asked Lowe.

“That is correct,” Lowe said.

That's news that gives Bridget's family a surge of hope.

As they placed balloons, flowers and a candle where she died, they begged anyone who may know something to call the police.

“If anyone has any information, please come forward,” Shiel’s grandmother, Beverly Toole, said.
