Popular restaurant Folk Art fails health inspection

ATLANTA — UPDATE: Folk Art Restaurant has an updated score of 93 as of 10/21/16

A popular Atlanta restaurant has failed a health inspection.

The owner of Folk Art, Jason Hill, says there is always room for improvement but that he's running a good, safe restaurant.

Hill also said the restaurant has addressed the violations.

This is a very popular breakfast, lunch, dinner and especially brunch place right in Inman Park.

Folk Art on North Highland Avenue failed its Fulton County health inspection on Thursday with a 54.

A longtime customer said he is shocked.

“The food is tip top,” the customer said. “The wait staff is tip top. The cleanliness is tip top from, what I can tell. I bring all my friends here.”

Violations included black mold buildup inside the ice machine, raw eggs and cooked pork not held cold enough, and workers handling ready-to-eat waffles with bare hands.

Channel 2's Carol Sbarge went to Folk Art, which opened three years ago, to ask about the violations.

Hill told Sbarge on the phone the restaurant has corrected the violations and there will be a meeting with the Health Department Wednesday.

Hill said some of the points off were for minor things such as containers of food removed from original containers not identified by a common name.

When Folk Art was inspected last year it got an 87 on its inspection.

One customer is not hesitant about continuing to eat at Folk Art.

"I eat here all the time -- several times a week," he said."This is my second time here today."

When a restaurant fails a health inspection it must be reinspected within 10 days.
