Police seek shooter who fired shots on Howell Mill Road

ATLANTA — Police are searching for a shooter who fired shots into a car on busy Howell Mill Road.

The victim said he heard gunfire on Chattahoochee Avenue Monday night, but that the shooter decided to follow him to Howell Mill Road.

“I start seeing the gunfire coming from the window, the passenger window,” he said.

He couldn't believe what was happening and says he was on the phone minding his business.

He says the suspects in a green Lincoln ls were driving erratically around him, swerving into oncoming traffic and for some unknown reason, firing at him.

Several people heard shots fired driving down busy Howell Mill Road near 17th Street in northwest Atlanta.

One man showed Channel 2's Carl Willis the damage after at least five bullets hit his car.

"I’m looking at it. I hear it and then I’m hearing it hit my car so, it had to be at least, once we stopped, maybe five shots," he said.

There were multiple reports of shots fired that night.

Willis even found what employees say is damage and bullet remnants in the wall at the BP.

Alina Haire works in the area and says the incidents feel like they are mounting up on the north side.

“It makes me look twice for sure, but I have seen a lot more police presence and a lot of the businesses have a lot more security lately,” Haire said.

“Definitely be aware around here, anything like that,” Martius Leonard said.

The victim tires were shot out but he says he managed to make it to Northside Drive, where he called police.

He said it is still a mystery why the shooter targeted him.

“People are just doing this randomly or even just getting caught in the crossfire. Just minding your business can be sad enough,” he said.
