Police searching for driver who almost killed a young woman during hit-and-run

ATLANTA — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who put a woman in the hospital with serious head injuries.

Angelica Green, 20, was crossing Old National Highway near Godby with her boyfriend when a car hit her and the driver took off.

The crash caused serious injuries and trauma to half of Green's body.

"I'm extremely angry that someone could hit a human being and just leave," her mother told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez.

It’s heartbreaking for Jami Dogood to see her only child lying in a hospital bed in excruciating pain with a fractured pelvic bone, two broken legs and a face forever changed.

“The fact that they left her on the side of the road is what crushes me the most.”

The incident happened on October 11th along Old National Highway. Video, obtained by Channel 2 Action News, taken from a city camera shows the duo crossing the street right before the victim is rundown by someone driving a Toyota Scion.

Police say, the driver was speeding when they hit Green. The impact was so severe, it sent her body flying 50 feet in the air before she landed on the other side of the roadway.

“I’m extremely angry that someone could hit a human being and just leave,” Dogood said. “That someone” not only kept going but they gunned the gas to the point where Green’s boyfriend could not get a good glimpse at the license plate.

Now, the 20-year-old who doctors say will have a long road to recovery is faced with the difficult task of learning to walk again.

“We would just like for them to come forward so my daughter could be at peace,” her mother said.
