ATLANTA — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in southeast Atlanta.
Atlanta police searched a large open field near what used to be Coan Middle School near Hosea L. Williams Drive and Woodbine Avenue.
Police said someone shot and killed a man just before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Family members identified the victim as Sammy Watson, 20. Police said he died at the scene.
Police called in K-9s and a helicopter for the search for the shooter and any evidence, but they have not found anything.
“It’s a wide open field. Looks like two football fields adjacent to each other, so that’s going to be an issue for us as far as doing a search,” Atlanta police Maj. Adam Lee said.

Family members said Watson had been with relatives before the shooting and didn’t live to far from where he was killed.
Police said they haven’t found any witnesses and will need help solving this case.
“We don’t have anything. We’re hoping that we’ll have some witnesses and of course, if anyone is aware of what may have happened, they’re encouraged to call CrimeStoppers and remain anonymous if they do,” Lee said.
Police said because the shooting happened on Atlanta Public Schools property, they will be cooperating with district officials.
