Park Tavern criticized for hosting Packers party

ATLANTA — Just two days before the Atlanta Falcons take on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship, some fans said it’s an Atlanta restaurant that deserves a penalty flag.

Fans are upset that Park Tavern is hosting a Packers rally Saturday night.

“I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all,” Ryan Holman said.

Channel 2’s Justin Wilfon was there as fans cheered on the team during a rally at the Fulton County government center on Friday.

“I just think it’s really weird that an Atlanta restaurant is having a Green Bay Packers rally,” Jordan Wilson said.

Wilfon obtained a statement from Park Tavern’s management which said: “We are and have always been Falcons fans and are rooting for them to make it to the Super Bowl. While it was not our intent to offend any Falcons fans, we realize that we did with our choice to host this event and apologize.”

Some Falcons fans went online to leave bad reviews about the restaurant on Yelp.

The popular app took down most of the reviews because it said they had nothing to do with the restaurant’s quality.

A restaurant spokesperson said the Packers organization rented the event space. The event starts at 6 p.m. and the Packers president will be among those there.

“They’re on my list of places to go now, absolutely,” Packers fan Callie Frank said.

Falcons fans said they’ll have their own party after a win on Sunday.

“Falcons all the way!” one excited fan said.
