New DNA evidence may help shed light on who killed woman in park

ATLANTA — Investigators are hoping new DNA evidence will help lead them to the person who killed a woman and left her naked body in an Atlanta park.

"I don't think a week has gone by since May 31st of 2016 that I haven't thought about it," Atlanta police Maj. Adam Lee told Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez.

For seven months and 19 days, Lee and his homicide detectives have worked tirelessly to find the person who killed Bridget Shiel.

"All the things you think about in having a daughter or a loved one, and having something like that happen to them," Lee said choking back tears.

He admitted to Jaquez this case has become personal for him and his team.

So when they learned of new DNA evidence found at the crime scene, they felt a surge of hope.

"We are hoping that at some point we can match that DNA with the person who committed this crime," Lee said.

He's not alone.

"I miss her every day. I cannot believe that the person who did it is still walking the streets," mother Angela Shiel told Jaquez.

Shiel said she is also praying the new evidence will be the clue that cracks the case.

"Hopefully the DNA brings us somebody soon," Shiel said.

Investigators said someone shot Bridget seven times in the back as she tried to escape her killer. When her body was found, she was naked.

“Do you believe she knew who her killer was?” Jaquez asked Lee.

“I certainly do,” Lee said.

While they don't have Bridget’s killer yet, Lee said they will stop at nothing to find him.

Shiel has faith that they will.

“I have faith in them, and my faith in them is unshakable,” Shiel said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
