New $10,000 reward set for murder of Atlanta teen

ATLANTA — Atlanta police, along with city leaders, have increased the reward to $10,000 in the case of Bridget Shiel.

Investigators believe someone knows something about the 19-year-old's murder.

Ever since the teen was found naked and shot dead in a park in May, detectives have been working around the clock to find the killer. They now they hope this reward will drum up some leads.

In a news conference on Monday morning, councilwoman Cleta Winslow, who represents the Oakland City Park-area, says she put up $5,000 of her own money and the Atlanta Police Foundation matched it to equal the new $10,000 reward.

"Please step forward. Don't let the bad guys win. Take back your community and you can do it in a way that you won't be identified," Winslow said.

Atlanta police say Sheil was shot several times in the back and dumped at Oakland City Park.

Police said they will increase patrols in and around the park.

Friends say Shiel was studying to reach her goal of becoming a hairstylist at the Empire Beauty School in Dunwoody.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
