Neighbors fed up with crime at Butler Park in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Neighbors say they're fed up with crime at Butler Park in southeast Atlanta. Police say they've made more than 40 arrests at the park this year.

Jasmyn Senter and her friend, Kameron Crutcher, say they worry about their safety when walking though Butler Park on William Holmes Borders Drive in southeast Atlanta.

"We've been approached at least five times just walking down the street," Crutcher said. "I've had friends' cars broken into at least three times. I've had people robbed over here late at night."

Police say they've stepped up patrols, and officers have made more than 40 arrests at the park in the past year.

Police have responded to about 40 incident near the park in 2016.

Gwenette Warner said she sees police in the area, but she still doesn't let her grandchildren out of her sight.

Robert Reed told Channel 2's Matt Belanger he appreciates police doing more patrols but thinks leaders could do more to fight crime in the area.

"Separate the people who are truly needy from the people who are committing the crimes," Reed said.

Atlanta police say they increase patrols in any area where they see a spike in crime.
