Minute-by-minute: Heavy rain, isolated storms in metro

ATLANTA — 12:45 p.m.: A tornado watch was issued for the metro Atlanta area to the south until 8 p.m. Sunday, according to The National Weather Service. This means that 10.7 million people are now under a tornado watch.

12:12 p.m.: Gov. Nathan Deal has declared a state of emergency for seven South Central Georgia counties. The following counties are: Atkinson, Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Lowndes and Thomas counties.

11:35 a.m.: Forecast instability is just enough for isolated strong to severe storms in north Georgia, but at threat to the south.

11:09 a.m.: Photos: At least 7 killed in Cook County following severe weather in Georgia.

9:05 a.m.: State emergency management officials confirm the death toll in Georgia is now 11, with 23 injured.

8:09 a.m.: Severe weather risk here today, but a high risk of severe storms/tornado outbreak south Georgia and north Florida.

7:15 a.m.: The Berrien County Sheriff's Office also confirmed at least two people died during the storm.  Information is limited at this time.

6:35 a.m.: Report downed power lines to the local power provider, according to GEMA. Do not touch the wires or drive over them.

6:30: a.m.: Officials with the Brooks County Sheriff's Office confirmed that two people have died as a result of the storms in Georgia.

5:39 a.m.: Rain and storms moving out of north Georgia now, but the break won't be long. Timing the 3rd and final wave of storms on Channel 2 Action News at 6 a.m.

4:42 a.m.: Falcons fans: Be prepared for heavy rain, storms moving toward the Dome by early to mid afternoon.

4:30 a.m.: The third and final severe weather, heavy rain threat moves in around midday today through this evening.

4:15 a.m.: Last line of heavy rain, gusty wind/storms moving through Newnan and LaGrange. Gusts of 40+ mph possible.

3:44 a.m.: A rainy midtown Atlanta skyline right now. Should see rain, storm threat diminish after 4-5 a.m.

3:30 a.m.: So far, just a lot of heavy rain and thunder, lightning over north Georgia. Looks like we managed to stay stable enough near ground to avoid worst.
