Man accused of killing 89-year-old woman identified

ATLANTA — Police say the man who got into a knife fight with an 89-year-old woman inside her northwest Atlanta home has been in trouble with the law before.

Gregory Ramsey, 26, and homeowner Sallie Stokes were both found dead inside a home on Baker Road last week. %

Stokes’ son believes the retired schoolteacher used a knife to fight off and kill Ramsey but died in the process.

He said when he stepped into the home it looked as if a battle had taken place in the house where he had grown up.

He found his mother in the dining room and a trail of blood that led him to Ramsey, who was dead in the bathroom. He said he had never seen Ramsey before.

Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez looked into Ramsey’s history. He had several previous arrests for drugs, but nothing like this.

Police are still trying to figure out how Ramsey got inside the home. They say there were no signs of forced entry. They are also trying to figure out his motive for killing Stokes.

“It’s hard to believe, just hard to grasp what happened,” a neighbor said.
