ATLANTA — Crime in Atlanta is down, but the murder rate is up for the month of June compared to June 2015.
A high ranking Atlanta police official admits the numbers are higher year to date. He also makes it clear that APD's Homicide Unit solves cases.
Atlanta's Homicide Unit has a clearance rate of 80%, which is significantly higher than the national average of 57%.
"We believe that if we can reduce our shootings by 10%, we can reduce our homicides for the year. That's our goal," Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson.
The department plans on reaching that goal by using their new Gun Violence Reduction Taskforce.
