Record-holding Atlanta Symphony Orchestra bassist dies mid-performance

ATLANTA — People are remembering a world record holder who played with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for 71 years as the queen of the orchestra.

Jane Little, 87, collapsed Sunday during a performance, was taken to a hospital and died.

Little played the double bass for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since its founding in 1945, when it was still a youth orchestra. She was 16 years old when she became a member.

She planned to retire after this season.

"I never knew Jane not to smile. She always smiled. Even when she was complaining, she was smiling,” Ellie Kosek said.

Little received a 5-minute standing ovation in February for setting the world record for the longest tenure in one orchestra.
