Rain leaves Georgia, ushering in cooler temps by weekend

Storm outlook for Monday, Oct. 23, 2017

ATLANTA — The rain that soaked north Georgia Monday morning is gone, but cooler temps will now be moving in.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said the region saw about 1 1/3 inches of rain Monday.

That rain came as a cold front moved through the metro. Another cold front due to arrive late

Tuesday night is expected to cause a drop in the temperature across north Georgia.

“By the later part of the weekend, we’re going to see a real intrusion of some arctic-like air,” Burns said.

Burns said north Georgia will wake up to a low of 51 degrees on Tuesday. The Atlanta region hit a low of 63 degrees on Monday.

Tuesday will remain clear, with highs reaching into the mid-60s as the next cold front moves in.

“That’s just the tip of the iceberg,” Burns said.

Burns said from Thursday into the weekend, arctic air will move down across the country, getting close to Georgia by Saturday.

By Sunday, that front will have moved into Georgia and dip as far south as the northern part of Florida.

Burns said the projected high for Sunday only reaches 59 degrees.
