Groups to hold gun buyback event

ATLANTA — There is a coordinated effort by law enforcement and local churches to get guns off the streets.

Atlanta police, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and local churches are participating in the program. They said it is an effort to bring attention to the gun violence crisis and get weapons out of the hands of children and people who are a threat to society.

Reverend of Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church is leading the charge.

Previous gun buyback program.

Channel 2's Sophia Choi spoke to one mother who lost her daughter in a drive-by shooting in 2015.

“We're not trying to take guns away from licensed owners,” said Delabia Cameron. “What happened to my daughter, she was 15 years of age and killed in Union City.  The guns that were involved, have never been found. So hopefully someone would come forward with those guns. If we could save one other life, that's what I'm a part of.”
