Grady officials say they’re seeing fewer COVID-19 cases after spike last month

ATLANTA — Grady Memorial Hospital is seeing a drop in Coronavirus patients after a big spike last month. About 3 weeks ago the number of Coronavirus patients at Grady was around a hundred.

Grady’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Jansen, says the number of Coronavirus patients has gone down to about the number they had at their lowest point in the spring. He says right now they have about 20 Coronavirus patients.

In mid-August we reported Grady Memorial Hospital was seeing such a surge in Coronavirus patients they needed extra surge beds the state made available at the Georgia World Congress Center.

At the time they had 38 patients at the World Congress Center. Dr. Jansen says now they have 7. He says they all came from a nursing home and are stable.

Dr.Jansen says he thinks the number of hospitalized Coronavirus patients at Grady dropped because he thinks more people are doing the right thing.

He says that includes wearing masks and social distancing. Grady and other hospitals will be closely watching for any increases in the next week. They expect any jumps in cases after the Labor Day weekend to start showing about two weeks after the holiday.
