Good Samaritan helps trooper catch speeding suspect

ATLANTA — A wild chase had traffic backed up on I-75 south in northwest Atlanta, and a trooper hitching a ride with a good Samaritan.

Georgia state trooper Haran Baylor described the moments before he arrested Keron Hamilton, 25, of Stone Mountain.

Baylor says Hamilton was clocked going 106 in a 55 on Akers Mill Road in southeast Atlanta.

That's when the chase started winding through streets before eventually ending on I-75 south just before the Moores Mill Exit.

This is where troopers say Hamilton hit a car - pulled over and started running down the shoulder.

“The subject got a good jump on me, so an innocent bystander asked me if I wanted a ride and I jumped in the back of a pickup truck and he gave me a ride to the suspect,” Baylor said.

At the same time, a tractor-trailer cut off Hamilton by blocking the right shoulder.

With the help of those two good Samaritans, Baylor arrested Hamilton who's now facing several charges including reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and driving with a suspended license.

“I didn't think in my career I would experience anything like this,” Baylor said.

The car Hamilton hit crashed into a median, then kept going.
