Light snow, slippery roadways through the morning

ATLANTA — The last of the winter weather disturbance made its way through the state overnight and into Saturday morning, but Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Katie Walls cautions it's not over yet.

Walls said more light snow Saturday morning will make for a slippery commute on the roads.

Additionally, with snow melting Saturday afternoon, Walls said a big concern is a re-freeze into Sunday morning as temperatures plummet into the teens.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said Friday's snowfall was an "epic, historic event."

"We've had some incredible snowfall totals," Burns said. "I don't think I've seen this much snow in the metro Atlanta area since the Blizzard of '93."

Parts of southern Bartow, Paulding, Polk and Haralson counties saw 8-12 inches of snow. In the northwest part of the state, parts of Rabun, Habersham, White and Lumpkin counties saw totals in that range as well.

Only a few counties in north Georgia are under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Saturday, except for some communities in the north Georgia mountains where the warning will remain in effect until noon.

The Winter Storm Warning includes the following counties: Cleburne, Randolph, Rabun and Habersham counties. 

Burns said areas in the winter storm warning zone will likely see another 1-3 inches of snow by Saturday afternoon.

"It will then really move out in the form of flurries at about 10, 11 o’clock tomorrow morning," Burns said.

The rest of the weekend will remain cold, but it will warm a bit by Monday.

“By Monday, we’ll get a slight break, warming to the low 50s. And then another surge of cold air blasts in for Tuesday. And then on Friday, another blast of cold arctic air is coming in.”
