Driver still at large in chase that killed family 1 year ago

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — It’s been one year since a grandmother and her two grandchildren were hit and killed by a car involved in a chase, and there have not been any arrests made in the case.

Dorothy Wright, 75, and her two grandchildren Cameron Costner, 12, and Layla, 6, were heading to First Peter AME Church on the morning of Jan. 31, 2016.

The trio never made it to the service because they were blindsided by a person who allegedly stole a black SUV from the Westin hotel in College Park.

Police chased him from College Park to southwest Atlanta. The high-speed chase ended on South Gordon Street and Rogers Avenue.

“We need closure and that would be someone giving us info to find this guy,” relative Lataucha Harris said.

Family members said they have had a tough time going through life without their loved ones.

“Going through the year, Christmas, Thanksgiving without any of them was really hard,” Wright’s daughter, Joi Partridge, said.

Partridge said the chase was senseless, especially because the driver has not been caught.

“I would like to know why they were chasing a car outside their district, a car that has OnStar that’s traceable,” she said.
