ATLANTA — An Atlanta police cadet made a daring move in an attempt to stop a thief from taking her car.
The cadet was using an ATM when someone jumped in her car and drove off with it.
That’s when police said she jumped on the hood, trying to get the thief to stop.
"We are certain that they watched her for some period of time. They saw that she left the keys in the vehicle. Left the vehicle unattended. That's when they came in and made their move," Sgt. Warren Pickard told Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez.
Police said the thieves pulled up in a black Kia Soul. A blurry photo of the car was captured on the bank's surveillance camera.
"They probably didn't recognize that she was a cadet," Pickard said.
The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday. The cadet pulled into the Bank of America branch off Browns Mill Road to use the ATM.

Police told Jaquez the cadet was at the ATM trying to get cash when she sensed something was up.
She turned around and that's when she noticed one of the two suspects jumping into her car.
"She immediately ran out to the car, jumped on the hood and the bad guy drove away with the car," Pickard said.
"You would think you could go to an ATM then return to your vehicle with no problem," bank customer Joe Dilliard told Jaquez. "They are bold and no place is secure."
Investigators said the cadet’s stolen gray Honda Civic has a Connecticut plate with tag No. AG23172.
It has been spotted across the metro Atlanta area by license-plate readers but when officers are deployed to those locations, the thieves manage to slip away.
Anyone who has seen the car is urged to call 911.
