Space heater possible cause of deadly fire

ATLANTA — Authorities are investigating whether a space heater caused a fire that killed an Atlanta man.

The fire happened at the Venetian Hills Apartments in the 1800 block of Campellton Road Wednesday morning.

The building was a two-story wood frame apartment building.

Firefighters confirmed to Channel 2's Audrey Washington that the victim is a 64-year-old man.

They said the victim had four other roommates and that a space heater may have contributed to the fire.

His roommates all made it out OK.

Many residents said they either woke up to the smell of smoke or heard other residents banging on their doors.
