Cold temperatures to stick around a few more days

ATLANTA — Winter is giving metro Atlanta a stark reminder that it’s still here.

It was a chilly start to Monday with temperatures in the 30s.

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the frigid temperatures on Channel 2 Action News throughout the day.

"Get ready for some chilly air this week," Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Karen Minton said. "The cold air is coming in and it's going to settle in for a while."

She said parts of the north Georgia mountains could see a wintry mix Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns Lumpkin and White County. Those areas could see some snow Monday night. Most areas will see less than one inch, but some spots above 2,000 feet could see up to two inches.

What you can only get by watching Channel 2 Action News:
  • Updated hour-by-hour cloud and rain forecast showing the timing of showers
  • Updated hour-by-hour wind forecast showing the rain/snow mix in the mountains
  • Updated hour-by-hour temperature forecast showing the unseasonably cold temperatures moving into north Georgia

The cold blast follows a cloudy, gloomy Sunday afternoon.

Elevations above 2,000 feet in the north Georgia mountains saw about 1-2 inches of snow early Sunday.

This is all part of the same system that is expected to bring a late-season blizzard to the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast.

Some of those areas could see snow levels measuring in feet.

Temperatures will again only make it into the mid-40s on Tuesday, making for another windy and cold day.

The cold weather won’t last though. Temperatures are expected to start rising by the end of the work week, with temperatures back in the 60s by the weekend.
