Car owner shoots man in back during attempted carjacking

ATLANTA — Police are investigating a carjacking and shooting in southwest Atlanta.

Officers said a car crashed into a gate at the Pavilion Place apartments on Cleveland Avenue.

Police said the owner of the car had set up a meeting with two men.

"The driver of the vehicle attempted to purchase drugs from two other subjects and they at that point stole his vehicle," Atlanta Police Officer Donald Hannah said.

Police said the carjackers attempted to get away, but the car owner tried to stop them.

"He fired two shots into the vehicle, striking the driver in the back," Hannah said.

A 20-year-old man was hit. Police said he and his accomplice were found not far away on Connell Avenue. They are now in custody.

Police are talking to the car owner and are not sure if he will face any charges.
