2 dead in triple shooting at gas station in Atlanta

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating what led to a deadly shooting at a busy gas station in southwest Atlanta.

It happened at the Chevron gas station on Pryor Road in southwest Atlanta.

Officers found two people shot inside a red car. A man and woman were dead, police say.

A third person survived the shooting.

Police tell Channel 2's Darryn Moore they believe they know who is responsible, because several people saw what happened.

Investigators said the most important witness is the surviving victim, who is currently at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was listed as stable.

Officers said he was shot in a gun battle.

“At this point, we believe everybody knew each other, and some sort of altercation ensued,” Lt. Andrea Webster said. “We know that the person of interest fired the shots. There was another person who was shot, so we assume there was an exchange of gunfire."

Police said they have one person in custody.

Investigators said they hope the victim in the hospital can them identify a motive.

“It’s ridiculous. It (has) got to stop happening," one person said of the shooting.

Channel 2's Lauren Pozen spoke to people in the area, who said it is a popular spot that is crowded at all hours of the day and night.

Many said the thought of people losing their lives at a place so many people frequent is frightening.

“This type of stuff right here needs to stop. We don’t need this here, it (has) got to be nonviolence," another person said.
