2 Corvettes cause multiple crashes racing in Buckhead

ATLANTA — Two Corvettes traveling in a “reckless” manner early Saturday in Buckhead prompted a pursuit by law enforcement and caused several crashes, authorities said.

Shortly before 3 a.m., Georgia State Patrol troopers attempted to stop the Corvettes near East Wesley Road, spokeswoman Tracey Watson said.

Both vehicles drove away, and a pursuit followed, Watson said. One of the Corvettes struck a Hyundai that was about to turn left from Piedmont Road onto Lindbergh Way.

The same car continued south and struck a Chevrolet Malibu in the rear, and the Malibu then sideswiped a Toyota Corolla.

After this collision, the Corvette struck a Mercedes from behind before coming to an uncontrolled rest, Watson said.

The driver, who was not identified, was arrested and taken to Fulton County Jail, Watson said. He faces felony pursuit charges.

Troopers lost contact with the other Corvette, Watson said. It was found abandoned on the right shoulder of the Buford-Spring Connector near I-85. The driver was not found.

One of the vehicles lost a wheel during the incident.

Occupants of the other cars complained of injuries, but no one was taken to hospitals by emergency crews, Watson said.
