100 rescue animals arrive in Atlanta ahead of Hurricane Irma

ATLANTA — Nearly 100 dogs and cats rescued from Florida are now right here in metro Atlanta.

A crew from the Atlanta Humane Society took in the pets.

Their goal is to make sure the cats and dogs are all safe and well taken care of.

“We’re taking them in to keep them safe. We’re either transferring them up north or adopting them here in Atlanta,” said Christina Hill, with the Atlanta Humane Society, told Washington.

“A shelter has to take all of their animals out and bring them up to us, we did that for Houston last week and we have to step up for our Florida people and help them out,” volunteer Doug Martin said.

Next the pets will be checked out and processed, then they'll go up for adoption.

The Humane Society said this is the time for Atlantans to do their part and give these pets a forever home.
